According to Bloomberg and Nikkei, Sony is doubling its PlayStation 5 production this year to nearly 9-10 million units. This is because they see that the crown pandemic has led to increased demand for games and gaming consoles. The production of the new DualSense controller will increase accordingly.
Growing production can be much less difficult to find a console at launch, which will take place before Christmas.
The plan was previously to produce somewhere between five and six million consoles by the end of March 2021. However, according to Bloomberg sources, logistics can be a challenge that will make it difficult to ship all consoles this Christmas.
This is especially so because many of the Sony consoles are made in China and takes several months to reach Europe and the United States. With the launch of the PlayStation 4, Sony uses aviation to move the console faster, but at slower speeds. Aviation capacity due to coronavirus can be a challenge.
PlayStation 5 Series production is scheduled to start in June. Under the new production target, Sony plans to produce five million consoles by the end of September and another five million between October and December.
Oculus is also increasing
According to Nikkei, Oculus, owned by Facebook, is increasing production for the same reason as Sony. He believes VR headsets will grow by at least 50 percent this year and increase production to two million units in the second half of the year. It should be considerably more than last year’s production.
Neither Sony nor Facebook has commented on the information.
